Even though many people advised against it, I gave both tests at once and passed them both. Instead of reading all the books mentioned, I would advise you to keep your study simple, thorough, and frequent revision of concepts.

I did purchase the GARP Books and Handbook, but I didn’t read them. Personally, I’ve utilised –

    • Kaplan Schweser – recommended for a basic comprehension of the subjects.
    • Practice questions from the BT were completed at least twice and in some cases three times (trust me, this is THE ELIXIR to pass the exam). I racked my head for several hours attempting to figure out the tough BT questions. Finally, as a result of them, I found the exam questions to be much simpler.
    • The Futures & Options book by John Hull: This book offers a very solid foundation in the course’s most interesting themes as well as the major issues of Part 1.

Overall, the ONLY resources I used to succeed were a quick read through Schweser and a tonne of practise with the BT Questions. Wish you the very best in your journey!

I have worked iin a bank for more than 12 years of experience abroad. Since long, I’ve been considering clearing my FRM, but I’ve put it off owing to work demands and travel. In 2021, I finally made the decision to give it a go. Having a family and a baby made it challenging, but it is definitely feasible with discipline and hard effort.

The hardest part is this, and like any exam, there are a tonne of resources and prep companies out there. My opinion is that the major work on which one should concentrate is choosing the best resource. This mostly depends on each person’s prior knowledge, familiarity with the subjects, and amount of prep time that they are prepared to invest.

After experimenting with a few prep companies, I realised that none of them could fully satisfy my objectives, so I decided to take a hybrid method. I depended on the books first, then on the subjects I needed assistance with. I took the video FRM course by Quintedge.

Although BT & Analyst Prep are the best ones available, I rarely used them. It all comes down to planning and work once you’ve chosen your resources. 300 hours is the average according to GARP, although again, this varies from person to person. For each level, I know students who put in over 500 hours of preparation, and I also know a few people who finished in about 200 hours.

Giving mock exams is, in my opinion, another crucial stage. Most of my preparation and practice revolved around taking mock exams and analysing them.

Finally, I would advise keeping yourself informed of the most recent discussions and developments through telegram groups. These groups prove to be the best resource for the most recent materials and answering questions if you use them effectively.

I was able to pass Parts 1 and 2 using a combination of Schweser notes and free questions from Bionic Turtle. Also for FRM Part 1, I also joined Quintedge.

The FRM preparation can be broken down into three stages-

    1. Knowledge of the curriculum: Schweser notes are excellent for comprehending the ideas and will help you pass the exam, however if you have the time, you can utilize the GARP textbooks because they are extensive and take a long time to read through. There are also additional choices, including Wiley and Bionic Turtle.
    2. Exercise Questions: In the Schweser Notes, there are five questions following each lesson. They aren’t quite as challenging as the problems on the actual exam, but they’ll help you review some ideas. The Bionic Turtle exam questions are more challenging than the real one and will help you prepare for it. There are additional service providers, such as Analyst prep.
    3. Practice tests: Give at least three practise exams in a setting similar to an exam. On the Bionic Turtle website, there are about 8 free practise tests (25 questions each )

Additionally, Schweser will provide a practise book with two complete mock exams (Easier than the exam but help in revision). Also, remember to complete the GARP practise examinations from this year as well as past years (Questions are repetitive sometimes but the difficulty level is often close to the actual exam)

The Schweser Notes and the Handbook are available for purchase on Amazon, and Bionic Turtle material may be purchased directly from their website.

Hi, since there are too many options accessible for FRM study material, many candidates struggle to select the best one. I was also one of those who struggled a lot to find the best study material, but apparently, I came across Quintedge’s Lectures, and the free questions from Bionic Turtle, which helped me to clear FRM Levels 1 and 2.

Let me tell you about these study materials in detail

The instructor of the Quintedge  has vast experience working with topmost consulting firms like Bain. He is a veteran in the field of valuation and risk modeling. On their YouTube page, you can watch the trial videos. I received a lot of assistance from their training in order to successfully complete FRM Part 1. Their videos are very well organized, with quick (10–20 minute) mini-clips for video solutions of GARP questions.

Schweser Books have covered essentially all of the critical material found in GARP Core books in their books. After watching the videos, you can review from here. It will be sufficient preparation for you to pass when combined with examples and back-of-the-chapter questions from both Schweser and Curriculum Books.

I hope this will help you!

I have recently cleared both the parts of FRM. These are the resources I used to prepare for FRM.

    1. GARP Curriculum Books: These books are amazing treasures, but time constraints prevented me from using them for all of the chapters. Each section includes numerous examples to help you comprehend the various approaches to an issue and how to approach them (examples take much of the pages of the section).

Start with Schwesar’s notes, and even if you don’t understand much, read all the volumes once. Then pick up Philippe Jorion’s FRM Handbook; GARP itself has recommended it as a must-have! Continue in this loop until you realize you have a good understanding of everything. There are a number of chapter-intermission questions that will teach you a lot.

Start testing on Schwesar’s question bank, which is essentially software, after two cycles, say. Again very very helpful as there are 1500 such questions. You can prepare your own tests from simple, medium and difficult category questions.

Take two weeks off before the test and solely complete the two schweser exam booklets.

I’m done now! These, however, are my personal opinions; I have got success with them. Since I accomplished it while working my regular job, students should find it simpler. Other recent entrants to the market include the bionic turtle and others. The simpler the better, in my opinion

    Hello Folks!!

Finding the best FRM study materials that can prepare you to pass the FRM exam is harder than you might think. Because everyone learns differently, the best FRM study materials shouldn’t be the same for everyone. For instance, you might not benefit from a course that a friend or coworker took even though it was profitable for them.

Thus, I will share the best study material that will help you clear the FRM levels, as it worked for me too.

    1. Study materials provided by the GARP institution.
    2. Choose Kaplan Schweser, which is an approved book for FRM students at all levels.
    3. Video Series from Quintedge

At the beginning of my preparation, I also made a study schedule for myself that I found to be successful. Practice as much as you can and follow any study material that you think is helpful.

In my honest view, starting right away and taking the actions listed below is the best course of action:

    • Carefully read the Schweser instructions (Also the GARP books if you have enough time)
    • After each chapter, practice questions from the Scheweser or BT (Preferred). The questions in GARP books are poor.
    • The test is challenging. Perhaps you should enrol in coaching, ideally online. Quintedge, Sanjay Saraf, or Fintree are the top choices. They are the top prep companies in this field.
    • As you finish each book, use 1 official practice exam to assess your progress. You can later take the six mock tests provided by Bionic Turtle if you so choose.

Learn the official books by heart. In the end, make sure you understand the subject and know how to use what you have learned. If Schweser guidelines raise any concerns, spend some time reading the actual content. I collected all the formula pages into a booklet, made a list of the most important points, and took it with me when I traveled.

Additionally, having a study partner is advised so that you can maintain tabs on one other’s progress and gain inspiration from a healthy sense of competitiveness. On a Facebook study group, I used to clarify topics and address the questions of other candidates, which gave me confidence. It was quite beneficial.

I have cleared FRM part I and II, all in the top quartile, in my first attempt. Here is some brief guidance from my end.

Book I: Foundations of risk management – study it from schweser, and practice the questions from schweser Question bank (this will take around 10 days)

Book II: Quantitative methods – study it from schweser, and do all the questions from BT. If you are an engineer or a quants guy, then you can try studying from the GARP material. But if you are a commerce guy with little interest in the mats/statistics, then schweser is enough, provided you practice enough questions. Please complete reading Book II, before you proceed to Book III and IV. (This should take around 25 days).

Book III: Financial Markets and Products – using the study materials offered by GARP. Attend every BT question as well. Additionally, you can practise the questions from John C. Hull or Schweser. (Again, 25 days are required for this.)

Book IV: Risk and valuation models – You should read this chapter from the GARP books, in my opinion. But if you find the vocabulary and the subject matter difficult to understand, read the chapters from the original GARP books by Bruce Tuckman and John Hull. Only these subjects are challenging and subject to rigorous testing.

Take the Schweser practice test and the GARP sample test. 5 days prior to the exam, review the material. Hope this will help you. Thanks!

The structured lectures by MidhaFin were a game-changer, especially for someone like me with a different professional background. The teacher explains with mathematical reasoning and derivations, along with complex financial concepts, in a way which eliminates the need for rote memorization of formulas.

Moreover, the course materials were regularly updated, offering continuous access until I successfully cleared my exam.
