What should I do after clearing CA?

I am working in EY as an audit associate for past 3 years. The work is very monotonous and there has been no real growth. Please suggest a suitable course which I can take up.

I would suggest you to go for specialization in the domain of your choice. Now a days I  have noticed many CA’s are inclined to make career in  investment banking, equity research and portfolio management. If in case this interest you follow the below mentioned steps:-

    1. Learn Fianacial Modeling and Valuations from Online training providers like Wallstreet School, Breaking into the Wallstreet, High Finance graduate. (Time required 3-4 months along with your current job).
    2. Apply for a job on the basis of above mentioned skills & parallelly enroll yourself for CFA.
    3. Along with job follow a strict study routine and start preparing for CFA level 1.
    4. By the end of second year of your job in Financial modeling and valuations domain you should be done with CFA level 1 & 2.
    5. Start looking for  some higher role on the basis of 2 years of experience and CFA Level 1&2 and parallelly start preparing for CFA level 3.
    6. By the end of third year you will be done with CFA and will have 3 year experience in core finance roles.

    I hope this helps.

Most people will recommend you to start your own practice or take up a job in some MNC. Or at most they will suggest you to take up some course like CFA, CMA, ACCA etc.

However, what’s lacking here is contemporary business skills which will be required to set up your business, or to achieve any leadership position.

    • If you are looking to setup your own business or a Finance blog – You must be on a lookout for a skill called ‘Digital Marketing’. There are numerous Youtube channels teaching it for free.
    • If you want to Climb up the corporate ladder fast enough – To reach a leadership position, you can opt for MBA from top IIMs or ISB. I am not degrading the CA degree, but telling you what might be beneficial in addition to that.

    Hope it helps!

Since you have experience in audit profile you can easily get into FDD. There's great learning in FDD profile and after few years of experience you can enter into IB or Private equity. That said, you can also take up internal job transfers at EY and give direction to your career.
