FRM, in my opinion, is quite promising and has greater potential in India. It is among the most sought-after job positions across the globe. As a result, after finishing your financial risk management degree, it won’t be difficult for you to find a job with a good salary. Large risk management companies adn banks make up the great majority of FRM employment, although other businesses and lenders are also in need of qualified FRM personnel.

A specialist in financial risk management anticipates, evaluates, and manages the different credit and market risks to which an organisation is exposed while conducting its routine operations. His responsibility is to evaluate and take the appropriate action to reduce the risks associated with inflation, foreign exchange, volatility, sectors, liquidity, and shapes.

You can apply for the positions of market risk specialist, enterprise risk manager, credit risk specialist, operational risk analyst, risk quantification manager, and regulatory risk analyst after completing your financial risk management course.

The above is my personal opinion. Rest do your own research!

I’d say that the CFA and FRM each have their own special set of advantages and a range of scope.

For those interested in a career in investment banking, asset management, or research, the CFA is a perfect choice due to its concentration on investment analysis and portfolio management. It is also respected in the industry and well-acknowledged.

FRM, on the other hand, places more of an emphasis on risk management, which is becoming more and more crucial in the modern financial world. Many financial institutions prefer it for their risk management jobs and view it as a specialist credential.

It depends on your interests and professional goals because both the CFA and FRM are respected credentials that can lead to a variety of job opportunities.

    Thank You!

The CFA focuses more on investments, while the FRM specializes in assessing and managing risk. Both courses are different, so it is hard to say which one is better. It depends on what each person wants to get out of the course.

Comparing both the courses in terms of various factors can help you to decide which course you feel is better:-

    • Difficulty level: FRM is mathematically more difficult at compared to CFA
    • Career opportunities: CFA covers Investment analysis, portfolio management, securities research, pension, insurance, corporate finance whereas FRM covers Financial risk management, treasury, etc.
    • Future: In the future machine learning and artificial intelligence can take up various tasks performed by a CFA, but w.r.t. FRM since the profile is related to risk management, the application of the human mind will be more involved.

Both are exceptionally high demand courses, one should decide on the basis of the work profile he is more inclined towards.

Hi Quedlians! I know how difficult it can be to make a decision about which course to pursue, especially between these 2 certifications.

If you’re more interested in managing risk (In banks or PMCs), then the FRM certification would be a great choice for you. On the other hand, if you’re more inclined towards a career in investment banking, then the CFA certification would be a better fit.

Both of these certifications have good job opportunities and will not let you down. Even after completing level 1(Or Part 1) of either of these certifications, you will be able to find a job.

So don’t worry and give them a shot, basis your preferences!

There are a plethora of different finance positions accessible. The CFA designation offers a variety of job options, including those for risk managers, investment banking analysts, portfolio managers, and financial advisors.

CFA is an international designation, so it gives you the opportunity to pursue a job anywhere in the world. Therefore, I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t pursue CFA if you’re trying to build strong career in the sector of financial markets.

I suppose that, as an FRM and CFA, I am the best person to help you sort this out. FRM and CFA are two distinct concepts that work well together. If you’re unsure about which course to take, I’d advise you to pick any one since these two certifications have a broad range of scope.

You can even opt for both of these certifications.

Following FRM, you can work for a variety of companies, including those in KPO, Captive, banking, hedge funds, insurance, asset management (mutual funds), and some commodity companies, among others. Business analysis, risk modeling, risk reporting, risk analytics, fund manager assistant, and quant analyst are all positions that you might be able to land if you’re really lucky.

The scope of CFA in India is likewise broad, if you decide to pursue it. The entire finance sector is substantially covered by CFA. The following are some well-known industries in India where CFA is widely used:

    • Investment Banking
    • Wealth Management
    • Risk Management
    • Research Analyst
    • Private Banking
    • Portfolio Management
    • Chief Executive Officer
    • Asset Management
    • Equity Analyst

In light of this, I believe you can see how broad the reach of these two certifications is. It is now up to you!

You should definitely read my answer to make your decision. Also, you can DM me for any further info 🙂

CFA is a comprehensive study in the subject of finance, from investments to risk management. FRM is a rather specialized training that gives you the ability to identify the risks and incorporate them into every financial decision your company makes. The need for both of these specialists has increased since the pandemic.

Every company needs an investment specialist to direct their money in the appropriate direction, but they also need an FRM manager to make sure their money is secure.

It’s crucial to have a thorough understanding of the advantages of each course in order to decide which one would be better for you in the long run.

So, the salary is something else I’d want to mention. The salaries for a CFA and FRM are listed here; they are nearly identical.

    • Pay for CFAs ranges from INR 20,00,000 to 35,00,000 per year.
    • FRM- Pay ranges from INR 15,00,000 to 30,00,000 per year.

Hope your doubts are resolved after reading this. All the best!

Hello Friends, the market has a big need for both degrees, so picking both could help you find a solid career. I’ll discuss the exam’s overview and employment chances in my response to assist you select which one to take.

    Future Goals:

    • FRM is a course that is Globally recognised by GARP.  FRM is the best course for you if risk management is something you are more inclined to and passionate about.
    • The CFA Institute offers a programme called Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) that is internationally recognised. The CFA is a better qualification if you prefer working in investment banking or private equity.

The key distinction is that CFA focuses broadly on a variety of areas, whereas FRM concentrates on risk management.

    Job Prospects:

    • If you’re interested in working in risk management as a credit risk analyst, market risk analyst, compliance analyst, etc., FRM will be helpful to you.
    • You can get a job as a research analyst, investment banking analyst, etc. with the help of the CFA.

Thus, If you want to concentrate on risk, go with FRM; if you want to be well-rounded in all aspects of finance, go with CFA.

I would not claim that one is superior to the other. Both courses suit their respective objectives, which vary quite effectively.  For me, the CFA was more challenging (in terms of the number of hours you must put in from day one to level one to earning the charter), wider (10 subjects it covers), and entertaining (in terms of relatable topics).

After you obtain your charter, the door to research analyst (determining which stocks are attractive after detailed analysis…), investment banking (assisting companies in raising capital), portfolio manager (determining where to invest a million dollars for your clients), and numerous other specialised roles open up.

FRM, on the other hand, is more focus-oriented and focuses heavily on how banks manage their ongoing risks (Market risk, credit risk, operations risk etc)

In my opinion, it is less engaging than CFA in terms of topics that are applicable, but it offers you a thorough understanding of everything that could go wrong if you don’t use your capital well.

Despite this, both courses complement one another rather than competing with one another because they share a significant number of topics (almost 35% in total).

To sum up, both of them provide you with a strong basis for the finance industry. Furthermore, both courses have established irrefutable legitimacy, thus both have a wide scope.
