The amount of time a student needs to dedicate to properly preparing for any exam is highly dependent on their consistency and quality of learning. A CFA level 1 candidate, including coaching and self-study time, must study for at least 300 hours in total, according to a general rule of thumb. However, it doesn’t always work – because it’s more about quality of time and not quantity.

By studying for 1.5 hours per day or 12 hours per week for about 6 months, it is simple to complete these 300 hours. This assumes that you are constantly making progress toward it every single week and not delaying your study until the last month, and making full utilization of every minute in those 300 hours.

A comprehensive study plan and thorough preparation are required for the CFA course in order to successfully complete all levels. You should absolutely enroll in a coaching center that provides good lectures such as Quintedge, fintree etc.

Also, one should not think of 300 hours as a benchmark. It completely depends on your grasping power of the content of the subject is what really matters a lot.

I studied for 350 hours in the next attempt and earned a Level 1 certification. I kept strict records of my study hours to make sure I had enough time to complete the course material and sit for plenty of practice tests prior to the real exam.

Anyone who is committed to achieving their CFA Level 1 certification must be willing to put in at least 300- 350 hours of effort.

How long you spend studying truly relies on a lot of factors, like your background, whether you work, how organized you are, and many other variables.

Being a working person, it was difficult for me to balance my schedule because I need to handle both my education and my job. So here’s what I did:

I could only study at night throughout the week, so after work, I would typically spend three hours studying. I spent 10 to 16 hours per weekend studying. I began preparing in July for the exam in November, and I intensified my efforts as the date drew near.

Taking six mock tests under “actual exam settings” was the most helpful thing I did,  without a phone, without consulting any books, without speaking, without anything. Actually, this is the most crucial step in the preparation. To prepare for the exam, I took two 2-week off from work. At that time, I spent about 12 hours a day studying. (Occasionally more.)

Having studied so much, I must admit that I found the exam to be “easy.” But I was very well prepared. As a result, adjust your study plan to suit your learning preferences, and if you ask me my total hours, it took me around 400!

Remember that you must complete the course material one month before the exam, so you can review anything you might have forgotten and take practice tests.

The course material totals more than 3000 pages, as you can see. You might easily spend 300 hours reading if you cover at a rate of 10 pages per hour. Overall, I would say it was really intense and probably took close to 500 hours.

In my instance, I began five months before the exam, and it was challenging. In order to have a more steady pace and more time to catch up on stuff that you have missed or are unsure of, I would advise you to start as early as possible. Additionally, practice should not be overlooked. My recommendation is to do all questions and examples on your own, to understand what you’re doing and why it is done this way. A set of practice exams I purchased truly helped me out on the real exam.

You need to allocate the time that should be used to ensure that each of the 10 core curriculum courses has been accurately and thoroughly studied before the CFA level 1 exam.

Even though there are a lot of test preparation techniques you can employ, there are only a couple in particular that can increase your chances of passing the exam. Since the knowledge you gain during the test preparation process will be crucial for making effective financial decisions, you will be expected to put in over 6 months of study (2 hours everyday) if you are a working professional without prior knowledge, to become ready for the program.
